Rev. James began serving the Congregational Holiness denomination at OceanWay C.H. Church in 1984. He was licensed in 1991 and ordained in 1993. He served in many levels of the local church while at Ocean Way. While he was in the Florida District he served on the District Royal Ranger Staff, and then later as the District Christian Education Director from 1995-2003. Brother James relocated to the West Carolina District when he was elected as pastor of the Martin's Crossroads Church in 2003. He has served in three different positions on the District Presbytery early in his career while serving as Pastor of the Martin's Crossroads church, including District Superintendent, the position he currently holds. Superintendent James' leadership style includes excellent communication skills, organization, and structure. There has been an increased sense of "community" in the District due to the demonstration of these leadership skills and principles. In addition to visitation of the churches, there has also been "sit downs" "phone calls" "emails" and other sources of communication with Leaders and Laity alike for the purpose of offering encouragement and assistance and to share in their ideas and concerns.

Rev. James has also served on the Congregational Holiness Church World Mission Board. Rev. James has served in his community as President of the Lincoln County Ministerial Association for three years (2015 thru 2017). He is a "Word" preacher, who preaches with a passion. His ministry has crossed denominational lines preaching in Conferences, Revivals, Youth Camps, Youth Rallies, Camp Meetings, Homecomings, Nursing Homes, as well as other outdoor venues. He and his wife Karen, their son Caleb, daughter Kristin, son-in-law Cody, and new granddaughter Jamie Lynn are enjoying loving, serving, and pursuing the "will" of God as they continue ministering the "Gospel of Jesus Christ".
